About

I grew up in the Williamsburgh section of Brooklyn, N.Y. in an era were there was no facebook, no internet and no PS3. But no matter your age or the neighborhood you were from in the City, you can always remember hearing salsa everywhere. It was in the background when our curfew was the street lights and you made sure you were home before mom yelled "Pa Dentro, Inside". Fania All Stars played on 33's at our family's house for Holiday's while abuela was cooking her pernil with arroz con gandules. The sounds of “CUERO Y RITMO” on the street corner in front of the bodega were we went countless amounts of times to get milk for our mother. In the park playing handball, Willie and Hector on a boom box that needed 12 D batteries to work and at the beach on hot summer days sipping on a piragua. Even B Boys breaking, pop lockin and up rockin to “Lets Dance To The Drummers” wearing shell top adidas with the fat laces were integrating dance moves that came from salsa. Life was much simpler and memorable back then and so was our music. Today as I listen to the old school its no longer a great song it’s a great memory of a time that will stay with all of us forever.
